Help, feather plucking

Post  fenris on Wed Jul 08, 2009 10:10 am

:pale:Can anyone advise me, I have four hens there has been a lot of feather plucking between them. I can not identify if it’s one or all also I think they are eating the feathers. They have a large area open and closed roof area as well as shed to nest. Not sure what to do I can find no ref in any of my books. If you can help or advise I would be grateful

Hi Fenris!

Can you tell whether the feather loss is definitely due to feather packing as a habit or are there any parasites present on your chooks or in their coop?

Help, feather pluking

Post  fenris on Mon Jul 13, 2009 10:18 pm

thanks Cheekychook

I can see no parasites or any bugs or fleas. I really think it’s one or two of the girls as it’s not all over it’s in generally the same area's and there are never any feather laying around in their area. One of our girls is a bat rescuer we had about 6 months it took about 6 weeks to get her back to health. I have wondered if she could have started it and the other have copied, as I here a lot of bat pluck as habit? A bit all over the place, but we are only 1 year in and learning all the time.
