Pullet gone out of lay

Post  Yorky on Sun Mar 15, 2009 12:54 am

I had been getting a steady ten eggs a week for the last few weeks and now one of the pullets has inexplicably gone out of lay. I'm not sure whixh one it is but one of their pelvises is ever so slightly tighter than the other one.

They both look and sound healthy but no eggs from one of them!

One of them does have lice and red mites and I've been dusting them with diatom.

Any ideas what would have caused it to stop laying?

Hmm, sounds strange.

Has their been any change in diet at all? How long has this been going on?

The parasite problem could be the cause and the Diatom should hopefully sort this out. Garlic is another good thing to use against red mite. Try rubbing garlic cloves on the perches and into the cracks where the little bu**ers retreat to Mad, add garlic powder to your hens feed and hopefully this should discourage them away from your girls. Change your perches if you haven't already but do this after the coop has been disinfected and 'diatom-ed'.

Keep us posted on how you get on! Smile
