Respiratory problem

I have a pullet which seems to have developed respiratory problems. There is an audible wheeze, its eyes are not as beady, its tail is down and it seems to be generally lethargic. I have three all together and have brought this one in to the garage to isolate it and keep it slightly warmer. Does anyone know of a way to naturally treat respiratory problems without going to the vet?

Sorry to hear you have a hen who's feeling poorly at the mo.

A chickens respiratory system is a very delicate thing and if you can hear wheezing or a rattling coming from the chest the best thing to do is take your hen to the vet. The antibiotics they provide are the best treatment for the hen and they'll check whether the infection is in either the lungs or the air sacs.

The steps that you can take to help relieve the hens symptoms would be to give the coop a thorough clean out and make sure dust is kept to an absolute minimum.

There are a few supplements that you can give your hen which act as natural antibiotics.

• Citricidal: which helps with colds.

• Garlic tonic: can be bought online and should be added to the drinking water.

• Apple cider vinegar: is a natural antibiotic and is also particularly good at preventing worms. Add 10% cider vingear to water for 3 days and then allow the hens to have a break before doing another 3 day stint.

Sorry to hear you have a poorly hen,have you checked her for mites or worms ? might be a good idea to treat her for this as well,sometimes worms
can cause a secondary infection.Let us know how she does
