Thin egg shells

Thin egg shells
Despite feeding the chooks crushed oyster shells, and their own egg shells back to them, and layers mash, one of the hens is now laying thin or broken eggs, and some eggs seem to have not much yolk.
Do you know what might be causing this, and what I should do about it?
Thanks

Re: Thin egg shells
Hey Ronnytigs! How are you?
Sometimes if parasites are a problem with your chooks (which is very common this time of year), this can affect the quality of the egg.
To improve the quality of the egg shell, I recommend you buy some limestone flour and add a sprinkling to your chooks feed. It's packed full of calcium and easily absorbed by the chicken. Also treat your hens for parasites if they're showing any signs. of them being present.
Hope this makes sense...it's very early in the morning!

Re: Thin egg shells
Thanks CC, I shall give the flour a go... I don't think it's parasites, all the girls look very healthy.
I'm wondering if the weather changing is affecting them too.

You guessed correctly
Feeling a bit zombie-fied at the mo with the lack of sleep... loving motherhood though although my chooks seem to be missing the attention I used to give them!
Let us know how you get on with the limestone flour!

Re: Thin egg shells
They seem to have adjusted back again with out any problem, so perhaps it was just the change in the weather.
I shall get some flour though, in case it happens again.
Daisy has stopped laying all together, she of the extremely eye wateringly large eggs.
She isn't moulting, do you think she will ever lay again?
As you know all my hens are ex-batts, and so she must be about 2 1/2 years old now.
