Worms?????

Post  Hermon05 on Thu Mar 26, 2009 8:49 pm

Hi

I was wondering if it is possible to catch thread worms from chickens or their poo?
My 3 year old daughter has caught them from somewhere, and although its most likely to be from someone at her nursery i was concerened incase it was anything to do with our hens.

Thanks

Hi Hermon05!

cheers Welcome to the Clucks & Chooks forum! cheers

I've never heard of humans catching worms from chickens. I'm currently pregnant and checked with a local vet about any potential risks of me handling my chooks and he said I should be fine and have nothing to worry about.

Perhaps call your local vet and ask them for some advice but I doubt highly that your daughter caught thread worm from your hens.

I hope your daughter feels better soon!
