Hello we are the 3 M's, Milly, Molly and Mandy.

The lady that feeds, cleans out our house and eats our eggs, wasn't going to give us names but another lady who lives a few doors away said, call them Milly Molly and Mandy! We got our names in the order that we started laying, so I am Milly the first to lay and Molly was the last.

I suppose you want to know what type of girl we are? Well we are Amber lee, a first cross, so we are mainly white with a little bit of brown.

Now my last girl to start laying ( all bought at same time, supposedly same age), only started laying last week. The other 2 have been laying between 4-6 weeks now.

Then this morning when I when out to collect the eggs, her egg( she lays in a different nest box and different colour at moment) was slightly crushed on one side ...

Hi all, hoping someone has some advice for me! We have Molly, a Welsummer who came from friends of ours along with our other 4 chickens. I will try to give you a brief history of her in case that has any bearing on her current predicament!

She was badly bullied and pecked at our friends and ending up having to be kept on her own for nearly 2 months. When we took her and the others on they made a new flock and didn't seem to have any problems. Molly had been coated with the black tar stuff as ...

Hi all,

I'm relatively experienced with small chook flocks but a newbie to Japanese quail. I have 3 quail hens & one cockeral. The cock performs his manly duties with great vigor. He is a cream colour with markings around his head. The hens are darker with natural dark bars all over. I think they are a different variety to the cock. They are in a large (approx 12 m squared- its a huge garden block) well ventilated pen in the garden with lots of natural shelters etc. I have tried to emulate ...

Dont ask me what sort they are cos the farmer I bought them from does not speak English!!

The first day after I got them I had 2 eggs!!

And I am now getting 5 or 6 per day.

They seem to eat a huge amount of spaggeti and layers mash, so I would appreciate it if someone was to give me approx amounts ...

Hi there

I live in Bristol in the SW of England. I've wanted to keep chickens for AGES and started buying books and reading info online about 10 YEARS AGO to glean as much info as possible and just waiting for the time when "the time was right" to keep chickens. I'm not sure what I was waiting for... we all say "when I have my house in the country", etc. I suddenly thought, why waste my life dreaming about the life I want when I can make my life what I want it to ...

Hi

I'm new here... about to take delivery of my first chickens and had a question. They won't be let out of their run immediately as I want them to get used to where they are, however, they will eventually come out. I have a small veg patch in my garden as well as other plants. I have used slug pellets, however, I do get the kind that are meant to be safe for pets, though whether this includes if it's eaten by a chicken I don't know.

I haven't put any down for at least a week now ...

Dear friends

We have 2 chickens needing a holiday home for the week 18 to 25 July because they are simply refusing to come with us to Italy, claiming that the Sorrentine coast is "soooo 1990's" and that the heat and dry air plays havoc with their feathers.

As such we have agreed to fund their plans for a holiday of their own, ideally in the West Midlands region, (they currently reside in Solihull) which would minimise the travelling time and save their poor chauffeur from ...

There are no visible signs of disease, wounding or injury. I'm not exactly sure of their age, but they are around 18 months to 2 years old.
I don't go so far as to wrap anything up but I do buy them a little something for Christmas.

I've bought them a metal food ball this year. It's like a metal wire ball which you fill with treats or greens and hang up for them to keep them entertained. Plus, it's so frosty here and we've had snow so the grass is hard to come by so hopefully they'll be thankful for the extra greens too!

So anyone else spoil their girls or am I just a bit OTT?

Pullet gone out of lay

I had been getting a steady ten eggs a week for the last few weeks and now one of the pullets has inexplicably gone out of lay. I'm not sure whixh one it is but one of their pelvises is ever so slightly tighter than the other one.

They both look and sound healthy but no eggs from one of them!

One of them does have lice and red mites and I've been dusting them with diatom.

Any ideas what would have caused it to stop laying?
