When I was cleaning out my girls coop, I noticed lots of tiny tiny moving black dots, all around their nesting boxes.

I assume these are the mites I have read about.

I have ordered some products fromm the internet to clean the coop and also some other stuff to powder the girls with.

is this a normal problem??

We live in austria and the summers are very very hot, so I'm thinking the mites have got out of control very quickly.

Also conversely, in the winter it will be very cold, with ...

Hi all, hoping someone has some advice for me! We have Molly, a Welsummer who came from friends of ours along with our other 4 chickens. I will try to give you a brief history of her in case that has any bearing on her current predicament!

She was badly bullied and pecked at our friends and ending up having to be kept on her own for nearly 2 months. When we took her and the others on they made a new flock and didn't seem to have any problems. Molly had been coated with the black tar stuff as ...

I noticed today that my pullets seem to have fleas/red mite/lice or all three! They are cleaned out once a fortnight and diatom is sprinkled around the coop and in their feed. It is usually my daughter who does this so today I did it myself. I replaced the lining newspaper, scraped the perches and sprinkled diatom around. I also sprinkled diatom around the hens tails and vents which seem to be the worst affected areas.

Does anyone know of a way to naturally treat respiratory problems without going to the vet?

I first noticed diarhea, falling asleep standing up, minimal eating and drinking, then she went to sleep on a pile of hay and stayed here for a few days. She has not laid any eggs since we have had her which is about 2 months now. When she tried to get up she wobbled a bit then laid back down. I picked her up and cleaned up her rear end. ...

One of my marans has a swollen and puffy face just on the one side and it's been like this for about 4 days.

Does anyone know what may be causing this? We have nettles growing within the pen but they tend to avoid that area and I have seen them catching flies and bees but would have thought that if she'd been stung the swelling would have gone by now?
