The girls who inspired Clucks & Chooks!

Post  CheekyChook on Tue Apr 22, 2008 11:49 am

I currently have 6 hens (4 more to arrive in May cheers ) and each one has her own beautiful qualities.

Nora:
Nora's just over 1 year old, she's a beautiful Maran and she's blind in one eye so she's often bumping into things but still has an uncanny ability to locate treats with extreme precision! Wink She got her name because she's very nosy and quite bossy so needless to say she's at the top of the pecking order.

Phyllis:
Phyllis is Nora's sis and she's a very prissy girl. She walks around very snootilly and can be very stubborn when broody.

Dotty:
Dotty got her name because when we first got her she was a bit dippy and struggled to direct her beak accurately to gobble up treats. She's a beautiful Blackrock and loves to dustbathe with her sis, Geraldine.

Geraldine:
Geraldine's another Blackrock and has a good bit of ginger (hence the name Geraldine - Geri Haliwell AKA Ginger Spice) She's very vocal and a bit of a brawler. Rolling Eyes

Ruby:
We're unsure how old Ruby is as we collected her from a farm but she's at least 2 years old and a warren. She wasn't in very good condition and had big bald spots on her chest and bum when we got her. She's THE fastest when it comes to treats, the first to get to the worms and will shoulder barge the others to get what she wants. She lays the biggest eggs even though she's the smallest hen out of the lot! She also has great jumping skills and will leap to great heights when offered spaghetti!!

Olive:
The belle of the group, Olive is a beautiful Bluebelle who we nickname Scary Mary because of her timidness. She was one of two, Peggy her sis died a while back (crop impaction and internal complications) but she has always been very shy and difficult to catch. She's at the bottom of the pecking order and has been known to be dragged by her wattles away from the feed...poor thing. She's settling in more (only taken 9 months!) and will get stuck in when there's treats to be had!!

So there's my introduction. I'd like to know from other fellow hen keepers what breeds you keep and their personalities etc!

The Clucks & Chooks girls updated

Post  CheekyChook on Tue Aug 26, 2008 4:42 pm

Well, another 4 lucky girls joined the Clucks & Chooks clan earlier this year and I thought I'd post an update on their names and their personalities:

Emily:
She's a little dainty blackrock with a little cute squeek to match. She's already picked up that Nora's blind in one eye and will steal treats from under her nose (or beak rather).

Lucy:
A lovely light sussex with possibly the biggest comb I have ever seen! She's the flightest of the bunch and she gets a tad over excited sometimes when I call them for their treats and has been known to over-shoot the pen fence and end up on the wrong side. When she's done this she almost looks embarrassed! Laughing

Lily:
Lucy's bigger sis and again a light sussex. She's my biggest girl of the bunch and although entering the pecking order only a few months ago has battled her way up to a higher rank above Olive (one of the original flock). Her and Lucy are like a tag team and always up to no good!

Grace
Bless her, she's another big girl and much bigger than most of the others but yet she currently ranks at the bottom of the pecking order. She's a beautiful bluebelle with a very pretty face and the most softest feathers.

Anyone else out there recently got some new hens that they'd like to formally introduce to the rest of us clucky chookies? Very Happy
