Hi I'm Ronnytigs
Hi, I've just registered as I'm about to become the proud owner of 5 rescue battery hens.
The coop is built and ready, and I am just about to get the final feed and bits and pieces, before we collect them on Saturday.
I'm all excited

Re: Hi I'm Ronnytigs
We collected the girls on Saturday - had a bit of a hiccup, because my ca broke down on the way there.
Backup plan, and we just managed to arrive at the rescue collection point before it got dark.
Now the proud owners of five hens - 4 beraggled, and one still with feathers - who is definitely a Henrietta.
One of the cheeky ones is going to be Poppy, the others still need to reveal themselves a bit more.
You can see most of them and a bit of the coop -

Arh that's ace Ronnytigs!
Who are the 2 most adventurous on your video then? It's funny that they both stopped just before the line in the paving stones!

Re: Hi I'm Ronnytigs
One is Poppy, she's looking rather straggly, but has now found that bliss is getting yourself as dirty as possible!!
Henrietta is the larger one, and a bit of a loner - she managed to get herself wedged between the greenhouse and the wire of the coop - TWICE.
They're not very good at reversing are they?

Re: Hi I'm Ronnytigs
Disaster!!
The next door neighbour's two dogs, one a terrier, dug through and got into my garden.
They had killed two of my girls before I could grab hold of them and throw them back over the fence.
My daughter and I spent last weekend digging wire down about 21" and backing with stones, to try and keep them out.
Relations with next door are NOT good atm.

Oh no! So sorry to hear about your ordeal.
By law, the owners are obliged to pay to replace the chickens killed by their dogs. I can't remember exactly where I found this information but if they object then I'm sure there's plenty of info on the internet.
I've found electric fence around the perimeter a great way to deter dogs... it sends the ones getting too close yelping and they rarely venture any closer after that.
How are the remaining hens doing? Are they in shock?

Just found this info:
If a dog worries livestock, then the dog's owner or the person responsible for it at the time, is guilty of an offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 and may be sued for compensation.

Hopefully you won't need to push this with your neighbours but it's here if it's needed.
