flying chickens

Post  charlie on Wed Feb 02, 2011 8:51 pm

I have just bought 6 young chickens 2 are roosters I let them out of the coop for the first time and in the course of the day one of the roosters flew out of the chicken run. I opened the gate and it went back inside. It has been sudjested that I should cut the feathers of one wing. Can you tell me what I can do to stop them flying out of the chicken run. The fence round the run is about 5 ft high.

Hi Charlie,

Clipping one wing of the rooster may stop them from getting over the fence. Also the older they get, they heavier they become so reaching any height appears too much effort for them! Smile

Hope this helps!
