sexing young chicks
can anyone tell me if it is possible to sex young chicks if so at what age can you determin the sex of young chiks. Also is there a time of the year when hens start to lay eggs. My hens are free range.

Soon you will probably be able to see that some of them will have bigger combs or spurs. Then you will be able to determine the gender. The females will also be smaller.

Oh and just to say, my hens ussually lay all year round but mostly in spring or summer.

xclovervinex is spot on regarding the appearance of the spurs. It is a difficult process.
Regarding laying hens, they usually begin to lay around 18-22 weeks old.
